Hosted by www.AmericanTrails.org Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center The National Wilderness Preservation System is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Forest Service. In a spirit of cooperation these four agencies established the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center to "foster interagency excellence in wilderness stewardship by cultivating knowledgeable, skilled and capable wilderness managers and by improving public understanding of wilderness philosophy, values and processes." Training addresses challenges in wilderness management, training, and education identified by wilderness managers all across the country. Current course offerings are available on the Carhart website. Some examples of courses of interest to trail managers and advocates:
The Wilderness Education Training Manual Series offer wilderness managers, educators and the interested public the opportunity to download curriculum, overheads, and other materials. The following links take you to the Carhart website where the books are free and can be viewed on-screen, saved, or printed.
Courses offered REGIONAL WILDERNESS STEWARDSHIP RESOURCE MONITORING & RESTORATION IN WILDERNESS VISITOR USE MANAGEMENT WILDERNESS MANAGEMENT DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSES UNIT WILDERNESS WORKSHOPS These 1-3 day sessions are tailored to meet the specific wilderness awareness and training needs of a unit based on unique course objectives developed for each session. This custom approach provides the foundation needed for units to address critical issues.
