Trailware 2.0 software and training available

From the National Trails Training Partnership

Training in the use of Trailware 2.0 will be available March 8, 2005 in Reno (see details below). TrailWare is a software program developed to analyze data collected using the Universal Trail Assessment Process, and to create reports from the trail conditions data. The updated software is available at no cost (Free, Free, Free) for a 120-day trial period, so you can test it out and see all of the benefits that it provides for yourself BEFORE you have to make a purchase.

Once you decide you want TrailWare for your agency, you can purchase it for the very reasonable price of $199. Contact the main office at Beneficial Designs in Minden, Nevada for all of the details (tel: 775-783-8822, email: trails@beneficialdesigns.com). This updated version of the software was officially released for sale, in October 2004, at the National Trails Symposium in Austin.

We will have a newsletter out soon providing further details and information about our latest trail project, the High Efficiency Trail Assessment Process (HETAP). The project goal is to make objective trail information more readily available in rural areas by automating the measurements on a data collection cart that can be operated by one user. As part of that project, we are currently testing an even newer version of Trailware (Version 3.0) which will import data from the HETAP data collection process.

March 6-7, 2005 -- Universal Trail Assessment Process Coordinator Workshop -- Reno, Nevada, at the Professional Trailbuilders Conference -- Cost: $295 for early registration by Feb 18th and $345 after Feb 18th.

The UTAP is an inventory process that provides objective information about trail conditions (e.g. grade, cross slope, width). The information obtained through an assessment can be used by land managers to enhance the safety and enjoyment of trail users (by providing accurate, objective information about the on-trail conditions), monitor environmental impact of the trail, prepare budgets, develop maintenance and construction plans, and identify potential access barriers. The two-day workshop combines classroom and practical, hands-on trail assessment experience to ensure that participants have the skills and confidence to conduct assessments. Registration fee includes training materials and lunch. State Trail Administrators or their representatives are eligible for scholarships, please contact Kathy at Beneficial Designs for more information (831-440-9561 or kathy@beneficialdesigns.com). To register for the workshop go to www.trailbuilders.org to sign up for this UTAP Coordinator Workshop.

March 8, 2005 -- TrailWare Training: UTAP Data Management Software Course -- Reno, Nevada, at the Professional Trailbuilders Conference (Atlantis Hotel & Casino) -- Time: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM.-- Cost: $95 for early registration by Feb 18th and $145 after Feb 18th.

TrailWare 2.0 is a software program for efficiently managing trail data collected through the Universal Trail Assessment Process (UTAP). TrailWare makes storing and analyzing data easier, allows for creating trail characteristic reports (e.g. grade, cross slope, width, obstructions, and surface) for management purposes, and Trail Access Information reports suitable for distribution to trail users. The course will provide instruction on using TrailWare effectively for trail data management.

Participants will learn how to enter data, perform data analysis, and create and use reports. Registration fee includes course materials and a 120-day Trial Version of TrailWare 2.0 software.

NOTE: It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that participants bring a portable computer to the course that is ready for the installation of TrailWare (Windows 95 or newer; CD-ROM drive). Participants must have appropriate AUTHORIZATION passwords to load software onto the computer, many Windows 2000 and XP operating platforms restrict permission for loading software. Participants without their own computer during the course will be able to watch software demonstrations. Contact Kathy at Beneficial Designs for more information about computer requirements (831-440-9561 or kathy@beneficialdesigns.com). To register for the training go to www.trailbuilders.org to sign up for the TrailWare Training course.

The annual Professional Trailbuilders Association Conference will be held in Reno, Nevada, March 8 - 10, 2005. Registration is now open for the conference and additional workshops being offered. Visit the website www.trailbuilders.org for more information on the conference and registration.
