FL Office of Greenways and Trails seeks Trail Specialist

Position will assist Trail manager in implementation of Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail operations as related to bicycle and paddling trail development, maintenance and educational activities. The FKOHT is a multi-use bicycle trail that is in development from Key Largo to Key West using existing bike paths and building new ones. The trail will traverse the 23 historical Flagler RR Bridges crossing 16 miles of water over 28 islands that make up the Florida Keys.

Primary duties will include: Assist in implementation activities related to trail maintenance schedules and activities, requisitions for equipment and services, assistance with interpretive planning, safety plans, grant writing, maintenance plans and other assignments as needed. Miscellaneous activities include assistance in development of community based adopt a trail programs, gps data collection for mapping, participation and assistance in meetings, events and activities related to the bicycle and paddling trail.

Ability to assign work priorities, insure proper completion of work assignments, ability to write and communicate effectively is required. Prefer college degree but will consider related experience. Knowledge or familiarity with trail, landscape or road maintenance experience and or construction supervision experience a plus. Ability to navigate water vessel a plus. Knowledge of natural and cultural history and ecological principles of Florida Keys and native flora and fauna helpful. Ability to work with diverse audiences and project a positive attitude, helpful, particularly as related to trail development with businesses and local communities. Knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, GIS, Access and Word software. Extensive driving requires valid driver's license.
