Title: Communications Coordinator

Location: Florida Trail Association headquarters, Gainesville, FL - Reports to: Executive Director

Summary: The Communications Coordinator directs and manages all facets of a comprehensive communications program for a small not- for-profit membership organization. Responsibilities include print and electronic publications, news releases, brochures and other media. The Communications Coordinator works extensively with staff as well as volunteers, managing and developing their skills in creating and implementing broad-based and effective communications efforts. These may include elements of public relations, development and fund-raising, advocacy, outreach and marketing.

Qualifications:
· Demonstrated effectiveness in written communications
· Media planning experience
· Experience in print and electronic communications, including internet applications, marketing, advocacy, and/or development
· Graphic design experience and technical competence with publishing and design programs, specifically Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, and related Adobe products
· Experience with Content Management Systems for website management (specifically Joomla)
· Demonstrated effectiveness in volunteer management
· Understanding of the potential for web based communications and social marketing applications
· Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or public relations strongly preferred

Responsibilities:
The Communications Coordinator is a member of a team of close-knit individuals linked in their shared commitment to the vision of the Florida Trail Association, the grassroots volunteers who build and maintain the Florida Trail and tell its story, and to creating a work environment that values accountability and efficiency as well as family and fun. Specific areas of responsibility include:

· Publications
· Online information
· Information management
· Public Relations
· Communications/Marketing/Development Support
· Research

Additional Desired Skills:
· Background and personal experience in outdoor recreation, particularly hiking and backpacking
· Commitment to living and communicating about healthy lifestyles, trail based recreation and environmental stewardship

The Florida Trail Association is the not-for-profit organization of volunteers for and supporters of the Florida Trail, a National Scenic Trail stretching 1,400 miles through the state of Florida, and the Florida Trail System, encompassing 1,800 miles of hiking in Florida built and maintained by our volunteers. The Florida Trail Association, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, builds and maintains the trail, tells the story of the trail, provides public information about the trail, and encourages local involvement in the trail to ensure it will continue to be Florida's premiere hiking resource for generations to come.
