IMBA Seeks Development Director

IMBA seeks a personable, entrepreneurial and skilled professional with proven success designing and executing a full range of philanthropic fundraising strategies to lead our development efforts. The Development Director is based at IMBA's national office in Boulder, Colorado, and is responsible for executing fundraising plans and leading the development team to secure contributed income from individuals, foundations and corporations. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and works closely with board members and local affiliates as a member of IMBA's management team.

This is an exciting time at IMBA. We've recently updated our strategic plan and vision to include an audacious new goal and corresponding capital campaign. We're looking for someone who can quickly build on the organization's successes, play a hands-on role in building the development program and team, and successfully solicit five- and six-figure gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.

Responsibilities include:

Developing, updating and leading the team in executing the organization's fundraising plan and calendar Identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual, foundation and corporate donors Developing a major individual donor program, including cultivation and fundraising events around the country and creating a volunteer base to assist with an individual giving program Overseeing writing for proposals, appeals and corporate member communications

Developing our strategy to raise money online and supervising implementation of online fundraising campaigns Managing fundraising messaging and content development and design Hiring, supervising, and managing fundraising and membership services staff

Coordinating with IT consultants to ensure efficient, effective management of database and report production

Working with staff to develop and manage a membership program

Creating and managing the fundraising budget

Serving as fundraising liaison to IMBA's board, including preparing materials for meetings, staffing board fundraising committees and assisting with special board projects

Required qualifications:

At least six years of fundraising experience, with proven success in the areas of corporate development, sponsorship and major gift campaigns

Demonstrated ability to raise $2 million-plus annually

Successfully building, or dramatically expanding, a comprehensive fundraising program

Experience leading and supervising a team of staff

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Experience recruiting and motivating boards and volunteers for fundraising initiatives

Attention to detail and strong time-management and organizational skills

Experience with fundraising databases and other fundraising software

The successful candidate will be a self-directed, energetic personality who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. Experience and contacts in the active outdoor recreation industry, as well as in the political world, are highly desirable.
