This is a full time, permanent position. Field positions work a forty-hour rotating schedule to include day and night shifts, as well as weekends & holidays as scheduled. JOB PURPOSE: Under general supervision, assists with the overall maintenance and management of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area trail system. Plans, coordinates and implements trail maintenance and reconstruction projects for the trails of the Mountain Bridge . Assists park staff in developing, drafting, and updating a comprehensive trail plan. Recruits volunteers to aid in trail projects and maintains a current trail volunteer database. Supervises and directs part-time employees and volunteers. Trains volunteers, part-time employees and permanent employees in proper trail maintenance and construction techniques. Provides technical assistance and guidance for ongoing trail projects at parks within the Mountain Region. Completes written reports for projects, documenting progress, work hours of volunteers and park staff, and expenditures. Assists with administrative duties, to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures. Supervises specific areas such as retail sales, day use areas, camping or special use facilities. Performs continuous public relations activities and assists with educational and recreational programming. Provides assistance to park visitors and ensures a safe environment to include enforcement of park rules, regulations and policies within authority. Performs limited maintenance activities on buildings and grounds. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate Degree in Park Management or related field with two (2) seasons of trail work experience plus at least one (1) season supervising people performing trail maintenance and reconstruction or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ** Candidates MUST specifically meet these required qualifications or an equivalent combination of education and experience to be considered for this position. ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Extensive trail crew and crew boss experience. Strong knowledge of training and experience in trail design, construction and maintenance and use of specialized trail tools and equipment to include but not limited to chainsaws, grip hoists, airless jacks, etc. Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions, perform arithmetic computations, carry heavy loads for sustained periods of time and work in remote, rugged locations with minimal supervision; ability to work in inclement weather. Must possess or have the ability to obtain current First Aid and CPR certifications. This position requires travel throughout the Mountain Region. Classification may require successful completion of law enforcement training as prescribed by state law. Valid SC Driver's License requi red.No Housing Provided.
