POSITION TYPE: Fulltime, permanent and exempt, competitive salary and benefits LOCATION: Redding, California JOB ANNOUNCEMENT DATE: Open until filled GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Land Project Manager develops conservation strategies for landowner contacts, negotiates land conservation projects, structures partnerships for funding and long-term stewardship, applies for, manages and administers related grants, and manages conservation properties. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in the office and out on the land. Small amount of travel (mostly local). Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Involves frequent contact with staff, cooperating organizations, and public, including volunteers, donors, and land trust members. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned) 1. Follow priorities set by Executive Director and Board of Directors. 2. Work with Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other Staff to develop land conservation strategies for Shasta Land Trust (SLT). 3. Evaluate project opportunities and directly negotiate the acquisition of conservation easements and land, protecting significant tracts of natural and agricultural lands in Shasta County. 4. Manage SLT conservation easements, working with landowners and volunteers. 5. Working with conservation partners, develop regional planning documents or strategies as consistent with SLT priorities. 6. Identify and pursue project funding sources and prepare grants as needed for land conservation projects. 7. Direct other SLT staff or consultants on work related to land conservation. 8. Serve as a member of the Lands Committee and work with volunteer and staff committee members on SLT priorities. 8. Make public presentations on land conservation issues, and represent the Trust at special donor and community events and with the local press. 9. Develop and/or obtain materials and information for website updates and SLT publications. 10. Support effective information/communication flow; greet visitors and answer phone as needed. 11. Attend conferences and regional training sessions, meetings and seminars and report on major issues and actions. 12. Attend Shasta Land Trust board of directors meetings as needed. 13. Compile statistical data and reports as assigned, and assist in preparing annual operating budget. 14. Maintain confidentiality. 15. Perform additional duties as assigned consistent with qualifications. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree. Experience in land conservation and/or natural resource management or equivalents. Strong communication, organizational and writing skills are essential. Must be able to work well with people. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Knowledge of northstate habitats and agricultural lands. 2. Resource management experience and/or education. 3. Experience with negotiations and an understanding of real estate transactions, land use planning, or environmental studies a plus. 4. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 5. Ability to work under pressure, communicate and present information, identify problems, and recommend solutions. 6. Ability to organize and integrate priorities and deadlines. 7. Ability to handle varied responsibilities, pay attention to detail, take initiative, be enthusiastic, and maintain quality. 8. Patience, self-direction, and ability to work well with people a must. 9. Operation and use of Windows-based computer applications including Word and Excel are a must; proficiency in ArcGIS is preferred but not required. 10.
