Description:

Working with BLM Ely Outdoor Recreation Planners, the Silver State Trails Project Lead

will draw upon their experiences, abilities and vision to provide technical review and evaluation of proposed actions on federal lands. Protection of Lincoln County's rich cultural and biological resources and coordination with internal and external partners to develop an implementation plan that will minimize user conflicts is critical. The SST Lead will become proficient in the requirements dictated by the Lincoln County Conservation, Recreation and Development Act of 2004, and BLM policies governing management of motorized trails including the Silver State OHV Trail and the Chief Mountain OHV Vehicle Recreation Area. More specifically, the SST Lead will oversee development of a Silver State off-highway trail management plan and development of a Chief Mountain Recreation Area Management Plan, and otherwise become proficient in writing recreation monitoring reports.

Compensation:

Successful applicants will receive the following compensation: o Salary: $35,116 - $51,972 (GS 07 - GS 11) annually, DOE

o Health benefits

Timeline:

o September 01, 2006 &endash; June 30, 2009

o Full time, 40 hours per week

Location: Ely, NV

Qualifications:

o education and experience related to motorized outdoor recreation management and interdisciplinary resource management

o knowledge, skills and abilities in the understanding of recreation management principles and motorized trail design and construction required in order to assist experienced BLM staff in evaluating and implementing land management actions;

o appreciation and understanding of motorized recreation opportunities;

o familiarity with GIS software and GPS equipment;

o ability to communicate effectively with a diverse public, and to write environmental documents effectively;

o develop and enhance partnerships for long term sustainable off-highway vehicle use areas;

o supervise other research associates, interns, and volunteers; and

o promote safety of all users of public lands.
