Job Title: Equestrian Program Instructor
Status: Hourly, daytime, weekend, evening, and some holiday work required, wage DOE.
Supervisor: Equestrian Program Manager
Job Overview: An Equestrian Program Instructor provides safe and quality private and/or group horseback riding lessons to participants with or without a disability. This includes conducting participant assessments, creating lesson plans, providing lessons and schooling horses. An Instructor also supports the Equestrian Program Manager with the daily functions of the Equestrian program. A primary function of this and every other job at the National Ability Center is to ensure that eachmember, guest and visitor of NAC receives the highest caliber of service.
Job Description
Job Tasks: 1. Teach adaptive, therapeutic and non disabled riding lessons as assigned
2. Conduct Pre-lesson activities as assigned such as complete participant assessments, create lesson plans, review progress notes, prepare for lesson activities, lunge horses
3. Conduct post-lesson activities such as discuss lesson with parents and volunteers, put tack away,write progress notes on each student, clean barn, feed horses
4. Complete evaluations and report cards to assess participant abilities
5. Create a nurturing, positive and professional environment while promoting program policies and procedures amongst staff, volunteers and community
6. Assist in daily care of horses as assigned: Schooling, feeding, medical care when necessary
7. Commit to continuing education in your field through clinics provided by our program and other outside resources
8. Communicate clearly, honestly and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents and volunteers
9. Attend staff meetings
10. Assist with special events including pre and post event tasks as assigned
11. Assist Program Manager as requested
Qualifications: 1. Previous experience teaching horseback riding lessons
2. Previous experience working with people with disabilities
3. Working knowledge of disabilities and NARHA standards
4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills
5. Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity
6. Clear understanding of organizational risk management standards
7. Current First Aid and CPR certification
