With financial assistance from the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) and additional funding from the Wyoming Snowmobile and Off-Road Vehicle Programs, the Wyoming State Trail Crew performs maintenance, rehabilitation and development work on trails across the state. The State Trail Crew has received $100,000 or more annually since 2002 from the RTP in order to purchase the proper trail-building tools such as a rock drill and trail dozer. Funds also helped in trail crew transportation costs and to pay highly skilled seasonal laborers.
A recent example of their work was the maintenance of a portion of the Beaver Creek Cross Country Ski Trails, located on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administered public lands in fall 2005. Over the course of 48-hours, the State Trail Crew made on-the-ground recommendations for the removal of boulders and rocks, and had a three-person crew at the site removing the debris, as well as pruning tree limbs along the trails. This is just one example of the fine work and dedication shown by the Wyoming State Trail Crew.
