National Recreation Trails... America's great trails!

Every kind of trail activity is represented in the listing of designated NRTs. Besides hiking and bicycling, the system includes water trails, motorized routes, snow tracks, greenways, and equestrian paths.

Silver Comet Trail This almost 13-mile rail-trail serves as a significant connection between urban Marietta and surrounding neighborhoods, numerous side trails, and the 105-acre Heritage Park. This multi-use trail provides access to significant natural beauty that is unusual in metropolitan areas. Amidst historic woolen mills and scenic vistas, this rail-trail allows for recreational activities such as biking, jogging, hiking, and horseback riding (designated 2002).

William Bartram Trail The North Carolina Bartram Trail Society maintains the 100 mile memorial trail in honor of the Philadelphian naturalist, William Bartram, who traveled throughout the southeast from 1773 to 1777. This scenic backcountry hiking trail follows a ridge line to Rabun Bald Mountain along the Tennessee Valley Divide (beautiful views of surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains) then traverses creeksides, along the Wild and Scenic designated Chattooga River (designated 1973).
