Mike Riter and Trail Design Specialists offer design, construction, maintenance and crew leader courses ranging from one day to one week (have continued to train the crews for IMBA's Trail Care Crew program). These courses are being accepted worldwide as the new standard for producing high quality trails that require minimum amounts of maintenance and yet provide users with the experiences they expect.
The Trail Master Training course is a four-day certification that delves extensively into the latest techniques for trail design and layout, construction and maintenance on natural surface trails. The last day is focused on crew leader training with safety and efficiency being highlighted. Mike Riter has taught this course extensively for 10 years and has completed many trainings for the USDAFS, NPS, BLM, and a host of state and county agencies. In 2009, the course will be taught at the National Trails Training Center, a new location in Commerce, GA on 50 acres. The site includes a teaching facility asl well as a variety of trails to show students the differences between properly built trails and improperly built ones. Learning opportunities cover all types of use on natural surface including accessible and motorized.
